LeJog Day Eight

Woke up in Carlisle to the patter of rain on the window, but the forecast didn't look too bad for the rest of the day. Breakfast was a delicious light and fluffy cheese omelette cooked to perfection by Sheila, landlady of the B&B. Mr. Sheila did the serving and clearing away... Set off at 9 o'clock and for mile after mile the route went parallel with the M74 and the West Coast main line with London to Glasgow InterCity trains speeding by. The terrain was gently undulating so could make good progress. No walking up hills here, and therefore crossed the border into Scotland at Gretna in no time at all. I stopped for lunch in the warm sun at Lockerbie, a small town famous for the wrong reason. Soon after lunch dark clouds appeared and for the next hour or so I was cycling through heavy rain, the terrain still gently undulating. At Biggar I turned off towards Carnwath, my destination some 8 miles away. This was the hilliest part of the day and arrived to a warm welcome at the B&B at 6.30pm.
