A
day of two halves: firstly cycling out of hilly Devon then onto the
flat plains of Somerset. But before all that, a fantastic breakfast of
porridge with maple syrup, eggs and beans on homemade bread, fresh fruit
and yoghurt etc. Set of at 8am, another warm, sunny day but with a
pleasant breeze. Many hills again but a great downhill run into
Tiverton. From Tiverton followed NCN (National Cycle Network) route 3
which runs for miles and miles along the Grand Western Canal towpath.
Flat and traffic-free. Looking for somewhere to eat my (Tesco) lunch I
came across two long distance cyclists sitting under a tree in the
delighful village of Hillfarance. Saskia and Hans from Baflo, a village
8km from where I live! They were cycling from Harwich to Land's End
(650km), then back from Dieppe (1000km). Camping. Had a bit of a chinwag
then went our separate ways.. A few miles later a spoke broke - luckily
I was close to Taunton so headed for King's Cycles who fixed the spoke
for a fiver. Apparently my RH pedal is cross- threaded so I must keep an
eye on that. Arrived, as usual, tired and hungry, at the B&B at
7.45pm. Tomorrow into Wales.:
